The Most Demanded Job Sectors in 2021
What were the most attractive sectors this year?
According to the REBR global survey, the most attractive job sectors in 2021 were Information and Communications Technology (ITC) and Agriculture. Their top 5 key drivers include: career progression, a COVID-19 safe work environment, job security, an organization that has a good reputation and is financially healthy. These are consistently the same across the two sectors. Furthermore, the automotive, fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) and life sciences sectors closely follow in attractiveness to make up the top five.
ITC (consisting of IT, software, telecom, internet providers and technology companies) is the most attractive sector for the ITC & engineering workforce (67%), and it is also the sector they feel their skills are most suited for (51%). Looking at the sectors where ITC & engineering workers feel most suited to work, based on their skills, and excluding ITC, we see automotive, engineering and energy & utilities best fitting with their skill set.
Employers from the top 5 sectors are globally rated highest on being financially healthy. The ITC and life sciences sectors are regarded more highly for a COVID-19-safe work environment. Employers from 4 of the 5 top sectors are perceived equally to offer long-term job security, with automotive the exception.
In Latvia, there is a strong demand for specialists in various fields - programmers, specialists in the field of marketing, finance, construction and even catering. However, the ICT sector and related professions are firmly at the forefront of any top profession. The profession of a programmer is highlighted here, which, according to employers, is the most demanded and necessary in Latvia in 2021. It should be noted that ICT is a multifaceted industry that also includes professions such as project managers, testers and systems and business analysts.
